Lukashenko sees housing as key factor of support for young families, families with kids

MINSK, 17 September (BelTA) – It is necessary to focus on housing in efforts to support young families and families with kids. Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko made the statement as he hosted a meeting with ideology specialists, historians, and experts on 17 September on the occasion of People’s Unity Day, BelTA has learned.
Yevgenia Kalechits, the leader of the youth wing of the Belarusian Women’s Union, mentioned demography as a component of national security. She suggested expanding state support. “The state provides a lot of aid when the third child is born into a family. Large families enjoy large preferences in our country in addition to preferential-rate loans and allowances. But the birth of the second child gets the standard treatment. It would be a good idea to encourage women to give birth to the second child. Possibly in the form of allowances, preferences, and loans,” she suggested.
The head of state responded by saying: “The key is not whether family capital is available for the second child or not. The key is to help young people somehow. I believe that housing is the key for young people. This is why I think we should focus on housing. For instance, we will resolve the problem of housing for the military within a five-year term. Not only the army but uniformed personnel. I focus on housing not only for the military but also particularly for young people. They need at least some nook.”
“Well, as for allowances for the second child or the first one, it is unlikely we will be able to implement them soon. If I have to be sincere and honest,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said. He explained that it would cost a lot of money that has to be taken from somewhere.

Nevertheless, the state is ready to lend a shoulder to those, who really need it regardless of the number of children. “We will try to help if necessary. But not indiscriminately,” the president assured.
