Lukashenko: Rural residents can have a  good, prosperous life

KLIMOVICHI, 16 November (BelTA) – Those who live in rural communities can have a good life and thrive financially, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said at a solemn ceremony to honor agricultural workers at the Dazhynki harvest festival in the town of Klimovichi, Mogilev Oblast, on 16 November, BelTA has learned.

“Visiting Dazhynki, I sincerely rejoiced at the successes of each region. At the same time, I carefully studied what else we can do for people, how we can increase the appeal of a rural life, so that people know that life in rural communities can be enjoyable, financially rewarding and fulfilling,” the president said.

“I will tell you in simple, peasant terms: no one is waiting for us abroad. We belong to the place where we were born. It was not me who came up with this saying. Let's follow this path,” the head of state said.

Aleksandr Lukashenko recalled his long-standing thesis: it is better to work in the fields on a tractor than to go to war.

The head of state remarked that now many want to have a house in the countryside. At the same time, there are many empty houses in the country. More than 1,000 of them have already been sold to those interested, of them 650 were sold for one base amount (one base amount is Br40). There are still 22,000 available houses in the register.

“Keep it up, avoid red tape and bureaucracy. You can easily buy a land plot and an old house in the countryside today. If you don't like this old hut, you can demolish it. If you like it, you can renovate it. Take care of this land plot; who knows what life has in store for us. We are Belarusians, anything can happen to us. And this piece of land will always keep you afloat. Hopefully, everything will be fine, as it is now. Grandchildren, children will come. This process is gaining traction, but very slowly. Our neighbors are more eager to buy land here. They value safety and peace in our country,” the president said.

Agricultural enterprises should provide non-local employees with rental housing, Aleksandr Lukashenko emphasized. “And these employees should be allowed to buy this house in about 20 years,” he remarked.

It is also necessary to dramatically improve roads, transportation, retail facilities, and first aid stations. “In the next two or three years, we will create an attractive leisure infrastructure there,” the Belarusian leader said.
