VITEBSK, 2 September (BelTA) – Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko spoke about his attitude to smartphones at the meeting with students during the Q&A session titled “Open Microphone with the President” at Vitebsk State University on 2 September, BelTA has learned.
“Do I have a smartphone? No, I have never had one. For many reasons. First of all, I do not need it. In order to talk to somebody (I very rarely talk on a phone), I have the Security Service for this. It has both government communications and all the phones. If necessary, they will report to me and I will talk the matter over the phone. At home I have people glued to these phones. “What do they write there?” I ask them. They quickly read the news to me. Security is the second reason for not having a smartphone,” said Aleksandr Lukashenko. “That is why I do not use a smartphone, and I do not need it.”
At a meeting with pioneer activists in May 2022 the head of state advised young people to spend less time on their smartphones. The president believes mobile communications to be a great achievement of mankind, but, in his opinion, it has negative sides, too. Therefore, young people should spend less time on smartphones to avoid turning into “little old people glued to their phones,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.
“One should sometimes put it aside and get busy with real life. Use it now, and especially later, only when necessary. The phone is first of all a means of communication and the internet. You should use the internet to get information necessary for life, but not to spend all the time there,” the head of state said.
The president then said that he personally did not use a smartphone for a number of reasons, including security issues.
