MINSK, 21 January (BelTA) - Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko was gifted a wood chopping axe as he visited Minsk Automobile Plant (MAZ trademark) on 21 January, BelTA has learned.
In accordance with the president's instruction to develop Belarus-made axes that should be as good as foreign analogues, students of Minsk State Automotive Engineering College set up workshops to manufacture firewood chopping axes. “We hope that this axe will become your favorite because it is made by our younger generation,” said Vladimir Shibeko, head of the administration of Zavodskoi District of Minsk.
Aleksandr Lukashenko thanked for this unexpected gift and promised to put it to use before the election and, if necessary, to provide firewood “from under this axe”.
At the end of the meeting, the president addressed the labor collectives, saying: “Do not worry. Live in peace, do your job. We will be fine."
As it was previously reported, during a firewood chopping challenge on 7 November 2024, the president presented a Belarusian-made axe, produced by MTZ under the brand Belarus. According to the head of state, the axe turned out to be quite good. It was not the first attempt of domestic manufacturers to get such an assessment from Aleksandr Lukashenko, who is known to love chopping firewood. The first samples of modern domestic axes made on his instructions were demonstrated to the head of state in May 2024 during his working trip to Orsha. However, according to the president, the product was not good enough. Then Aleksandr Lukashenko set a clear task to assimilate the production of such goods.
