Lukashenko, Putin meet after informal CIS summit

ST. PETERSBURG, 26 December (BelTA) – Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko met with President of Russia Vladimir Putin on 25 December after an informal summit of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), BelTA has learned.

The meeting of the CIS heads of state took place in the territory of the all-season resort Igora outside St. Petersburg. President of Russia Vladimir Putin opened the summit. His country ends its presidency over the Commonwealth of Independent States this year and will transfer the authority to Tajikistan.

Despite the informal status of the summit the protocol part of the negotiations turned out to be quite lengthy. The CIS leaders talked behind closed doors and without the presence of mass media. After that they continued the conversation in the lunch format. According to the Telegram channel Pul Pervogo, the meeting of the presidents lasted for a total of 9.5 hours.

“Lukashenko and Putin talked one-on-one for about an hour and a half! It is yet unknown what they talked about,” the media resource noted.
