MINSK, 28 October (BelTA) - Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko presented Governor of Sakhalin Oblast of the Russian Federation Valery Limarenko with a special letter of commendation of the President of Belarus on 28 October, BelTA has learned.
“I must officially thank you! This is for you. You may hang it on a wall in your office,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.
“In the most honorable place!” Valery Limarenko promised.
“You are more than our man. You can't even imagine what you and I were to do back then when we decided to build a nuclear power plant. As you can see, I have not forgotten that you were directly related to the matter. This is our first face-to-face meeting, but you are a very famous person in Belarus. As head of Nizhny Novgorod’s AtomEnergoProyekt you supervised the preparations for the construction of the first power unit of the Belarusian nuclear power plant,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.
In October, Valery Limarenko was awarded a letter of commendation of the President of Belarus for his high professionalism and significant contribution to the implementation of the investment project for the construction of the Belarusian nuclear power plant.

“The nuclear power plant is very good and shows stable performance. Today we are already thinking about whether to build a second nuclear power plant or not. I think electricity is the future, especially nuclear energy. That is why we are thinking about building a second nuclear power plant. I thank you once again for the contribution you have made to the implementation of this strategic investment project in Belarus,” the head of state stressed.
“It was a very touching moment to hear your words of gratitude and receive a letter of commendation. Let me remind you that when we first met, we had a serious conversation about the construction of a nuclear power plant. The Russians promised to build the most efficient, safest nuclear power plant at the lowest cost. There was a lot of talk on the matter at the time. Someone spoke ironically about it. Some saw it as a super task that had to be accomplished with clenched teeth. In the end it turned out that way. So, accepting the letter of commendation today, I would like to say that the Russians kept their word. I am very pleased that we remember this. In the future, I hope we will do something good together in different areas. And I hope I will be involved in these future projects,” Valery Limarenko said.
