MINSK, 31 March (BelTA) – Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko, appointing Aleksei Kushnarenko Minsk Oblast Governor, commented on the absence of agricultural working experience of the former energy minister, BelTA has learned.
“You do not have an oblast center. But you have large cities. You have agro- towns. They need to be put in order. If you have all the farms in Minsk Oblast like Gazovik-Sipakovo, I will not ask for more from you. We need such farms,” the head of state said.
In his words, the farm has become self-sufficient, showing high results not at the expense of subsidies from energy companies.
According to Aleksei Kushnarenko, there are 15 agricultural enterprises affiliated with the Energy Ministry: “Today our cattle is at 86,000 head. Of them 20,000 are cows. As for land, we have 83,000 hectares of farmland, 63,000 hectares of arable land. The average milk yield stood at 8300kg last year.”
“A good one,” the head of state assessed the milk yield figure.
Grain yield averaged 43 centners per hectare in 15 farms, Aleksei Kushnarenko added.

“If you work like this in Minsk Oblast, this will be more than enough. We need the production level these 15 farms are showing. We need no more. We can see that you are well aware of the operation of the sector,” the president said.
Aleksandr Lukashenko touched upon the policy of unification and consolidation of farms. It often gives half of the expected effect, he said. There is a positive experience however when farms are supervised by large enterprises and organizations. “If the strong ones, such as energy companies, industrial enterprises will supervise these farms, land, I am sure there will be a result. These practices can be applied in Minsk Oblast. Especially you have the necessary experience,” the head of state said.
He added that at the example of Grodno Oblast and Minsk Oblast it would be interesting to see how the region operates under a non-specialist in the agrarian sector. “Although [newly-appointed Grodno Oblast Governor Yuri] Karayev dealt with agricultural matters when he worked as a presidential aide for five years,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.
The president said that Aleksei Kushnarenko was not a stranger to agriculture: “I saw it in his eyes. I have been watching your work and decided that you would work well with these hardworking people.”

The president warned, however, that the main thing was the result: “There is one more circumstance: it is in our nature to sympathize, to pity and so on. Yes, we will sympathize with the agrarians’ state of affairs, but we need results there.”
“I get reports on an increasing cattle mortality. This is an inadmissible thing. I am sure that you will pay close attention to this matter. I know that this [allowing such shortcomings] is not in your nature. The gross yield should be at 3 million tonnes,” the head of state added.
