GRODNO, 19 March (BelTA) – Some things will not happen in the country while I am president, Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he met with personnel of the Molochny Mir dairy on 19 March, BelTA has learned.
The head of state recalled one of the working trips during his early years as president. It was to Grodno Oblast. "When I looked at Grodno Oblast from a helicopter, I was horrified. It was a blooming region when visited it in Soviet times. After the collapse of the Soviet Union it turned into a nightmare. What we have today is a far cry from what it was then. Back then the region was in a state of disarray,” the president said.
The president said that ahead of the elections he warned people of what he could lose if the events took a certain turn: "On many occasions I urged people to wake up, to be vigilant. Some people didn't listen, including in Grodno. You know who and why. So being here I want to say this will not happen while I am president.”
“We will remain a united country. We will never beg anyone. We will not stand on our knees. If we act sensibly, we will live well,” the president stressed.
“Ukrainians are right by saying that Belarusians are novices and inexperienced. But I want to tell them that I do not want Belarusians to go through things they have in Ukraine, to gain such experience. It would be a catastrophe. It would be horrible. Perhaps people do live better in some places than us. But let us deal with the pandemic first and then we will see how things will be,” Aleksandr Lukashenko noted. “We live as good as we can, not worse than others. Cherish your land. You will have other people as presidents. I guarantee you this. Then you will be able to compare things and you will understand everything. For now, bear with me,” he added.
