KLIMOVICHI, 16 November (BelTA) – Belarus will not wrap up the One District, One Project program, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said at a solemn ceremony to honor agricultural workers during the Mogilev Oblast Dazhynki harvest festival in Klimovichi on 16 November, BelTA has learned. "In no case should we wrap up the One District, One Project program. Within only two years, we launched 47 projects and created over 4,500 jobs, more than a thousand of them in Mogilev Oblast. It was my initiative and, as they say, I will definitely complete this program," the president pointed out. "Let's say, small and medium-sized (whatever you need) enterprises should be established in Klimovichi."
He stated that so far this program has been not fully implemented as it was supposed to be. "It is the responsibility of chairmen of district executive committees. Some of the projects involve routine modernization of enterprises, which would have been carried out anyway," Aleksandr Lukashenko said. “That is, without this program, we would still modernize enterprises. Our officials quickly started touting any project as the new program’. No, my dears, the program provides for new production facilities. Albeit small ones."
Aleksandr Lukashenko cited an example from his hometown. Back in the day there was a bakery in the small village of Kopys, where one could buy fresh warm bread. Then this facility was shut down. "Why was it shut down? Even if three or five people work there, it is still a manufacturing facility. It is for people," the Belarusian leader said. “Here is one of the options. We need to think before we do anything in the district centers. Take at least Shklov: there were agricultural machinery and chemical enterprises, a flax plant, a building construction company."
The head of state emphasized that nowadays the country is restoring all these enterprises. The districts need them, not to mention that they provide jobs for people. "This is the task of the chairman of the district executive committee. All this should be restored: from fodder mills to district agricultural services enterprises. They should hurry up, work better and contribute to agriculture. Let's restore the enterprises! This is what we need," Aleksandr Lukashenko said.
As far as the One District, One Project program is concerned, the president said that the country will further it in the next five-year period. Control over the program will be strengthened, especially at the level of district executive committee chairmen. "In a few days we will review the results of this program. We will see how you did it. But I warn you: do not lie, for God's sake! Do not pretend that you have done something when you have not. It is not popular in the run-up the presidential election, but you know my approach: ‘If we have agreed, you must do it. At any cost, but it must be done’," the Belarusian leader summarized.
