Lukashenko: Peace is an absolute value for Belarusians and we have to preserve it

MINSK, 28 January (BelTA) – Peace is an absolute value for Belarusians. Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko made the statement in his address to the nation and the parliament on 28 January, BelTA has learned.

Aleksandr Lukashenko pointed out: “Peace is an absolute value for Belarusians, the most important one that defines the world outlook. All of us have to exert colossal efforts in order to preserve it. First, we have to preserve the unity of the society and the state. The country is capable of effectively counteracting aggression only if it is monolithic.”

The president noted that conventional wars are a thing of the past. Hybrid wars are in fashion these days. The organization of an internal conflict, cyberattacks, attempts to paralyze the state administration and disorient the society precede a military invasion in the course of hybrid warfare. These steps were taken before acts of aggression in Yugoslavia, Iraq, and Libya. Actions against Belarus were taken according to a similar scenario, Aleksandr Lukashenko reminded.

“Do you remember the year 2020? The threat of a real hot war and a genuine military invasion emerged back then. I've already told you: if this crazy opposition had managed to capture Belarus at least for a day the way it happened in Kazakhstan, if they had captured some government building if not the Palace of Independence, if they had proclaimed they are the government and had summoned NATO troops here… The troops were already positioned to do it. We managed to preserve the country back then. The West ill-advisedly tried to implement old plans to create a Baltic-Black Sea foothold. We didn't allow it back then. And we cannot allow it in the future, too,” the Belarusian leader stated.
