Lukashenko outraged by mismanagement in agriculture

MINSK, 16 April (BelTA) – Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko named outrageous incidents of mismanagement in the agricultural industry and gave an instruction to take tough action against it as he hosted a meeting to discuss rural development and efficiency of the agricultural sector, BelTA has learned.

The head of state called discipline a key factor of success for any business. That said, law enforcement agencies report that the agricultural sector has the biggest number of violations of labor discipline.

Aleksandr Lukashenko gave an instruction, including to law enforcement agencies, to help sort out discipline issues on the ground.

According to the data cited by the head of state, the agricultural sector accounted for a fifth of all cases of corruption and economic crimes in 2023. The most common crimes had to do with forgery; the number of thefts increased. In addition, this year, while controlling the movement of livestock, 104 criminal cases were initiated, and the over-reporting of almost 2,000 livestock head was revealed. “Most of these crimes were revealed in the farms with the largest number of livestock deaths. And this happens in all regions,” the president noted.

Aleksandr Lukashenko cited an incident that occurred in the town of Lyuban, Minsk Oblast: “I don’t even know what to call these people, they went so far as to remove carcasses of dead cattle from burial grounds, butcher them and sell them as “meat” to the population. Moreover, veterinarians and other specialists of agricultural organizations from three districts (Lyuban District, Osipovichi District and Staryye Dorogi District) were involved in this.”

The head of state gave an instruction to report what measures had been taken against those responsible.

In addition, there were many cases when people showed up at work being drunk. The number of injuries and fires is increasing.

“Such blatant irresponsibility, negligence and carelessness in the performance of official duties require toughest action,” the Belarusian leader emphasized.
