Lukashenko okays appointment of new head of Petrikov District Executive Committee

PETRIKOV DISTRICT, 3 August (BelTA) – Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko approved the appointment of Polesie-Agroinvest Director Aleksandr Veremeyev as a new chairman of the Petrikov District Executive Committee. The president announced this personnel decision right in the field during his working trip to Petrikov District on 3 August, BelTA has learned.

“Let's go straight to the point. Do you want him to be the chairman of the district executive committee?” Aleksandr Lukashenko asked Gomel Oblast Governor Ivan Krupko.

The governor answered in the affirmative.

“Will he handle it?” the head of state asked.

The answer was affirmative again.

Aleksandr Lukashenko asked Aleksandr Veremeyev whether he is well-informed about the issue of merging local farms and what is his take on it.

Having discussed these technical issues, the president insisted that the entire district should follow the example of Polesie-Agroinvest when it comes to agricultural practices.

“Okay, you will assume the role of the chairman of the district executive committee on Monday. But keep in mind - this is a good farm. God forbid you ruin it. Therefore, choose carefully the one who will succeed you,” the head of state said.

Aleksandr Lukashenko noted that the best practices used in this farm should be scaled across the entire district. “I know his background. I studied it. This appointment did not come out of the blue. He is a local, he grew up here. A real Polesian, whom I love and respect very much. Of course, the  local soil is not like the one in Grodno or Turov [in terms of fertility]. And we need to find people like that, who don't whine or cry, but make the most of what they have.”

“I really like this complex. It operates efficiently, there's nothing I can add. Do as you see fit,” the Belarusian leader remarked.

The president added that if he has a chance, he will visit Petrikov District again in the fall to assess the performance of the new chairman. “You will tell me whether you have been off to a good start in your new role. Study the personnel issue to identify people who are not fit for the job, those who want to work and those who don't. As I always say, you can't fire people left and right, even if you see that they need to be let go. You should give a person a chance. If you need my support, let me know,” the head of state said.

“He needs to grow to the level of at least Ivan Ivanovich [former Agriculture and Food Minister, and today's Gomel Oblast Governor Ivan Krupko], so that we can take him back, and he will sort things out in the region,” Aleksandr Lukashenko added.
