MINSK, 26 January (BelTA) – An election is a serious thing where showmanship and bustle have no place. Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko made the statement while talking to reporters in Minsk on 26 January, BelTA has learned.
One of the questions the head of state was asked focused on peculiarities of campaigning during the presidential election. The president responded by saying: “Why there are no shows and bustle? I am glad. You know we don’t need a show. It is not our thing. An election is a serious thing. Serious things should be made seriously. Why should we walk all over the place, shout at the top of our lungs, and hold rallies?”
“I am glad that [the presidential election campaign in Belarus proceeds] in a businesslike manner. I sincerely wanted it to be normal,” Aleksandr Lukashenko added. He stressed that in 2020 Belarusians were “vaccinated” and made appropriate conclusions. “We will not repeat that anymore,” the president said.
