Lukashenko names reason behind appointment of new Minsk Oblast governor

LYUBAN DISTRICT, 23 May (BelTA) – Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko revealed the reason for appointing Aleksei Kushnarenko as Minsk Oblast Governor as he spoke at an onsite meeting in Lyuban District on 23 May, BelTA has learned.

Prior to his appointment as Minsk Oblast Governor, Aleksei Kushnarenko held the post of Energy Minister.

“I can already reveal a secret. Aleksei Ivanovich [Kushnarenko], when I was making a decision to appoint you here, I purposely did not choose an agricultural specialist for this post,” the head of state said.

Aleksandr Lukashenko added that there are agricultural enterprises affiliated with the Energy Ministry. He once visited one of them - Gazovik-Sipakovo in Shklov District. Back then the president discussed the operation of the enterprise with Aleksei Kushnarenko. “I asked you a question then: ‘Do you have to support this enterprise financially?’ ‘No,’ he said, and added that the enterprise was self-sufficient,” said the head of state.

The president said that he remembered that agricultural enterprise from the Soviet times. The level of management has considerably improved, the president added. “What I saw was strikingly different from what it used to be [in the Soviet period]. Nothing has been broken, nothing has been thrown away. Everything has been put in order. The enterprise operates well. I remember your working style very well.”

According to Aleksandr Lukashenko, the ministry is always ready to meet agricultural enterprises halfway when heads of these agricultural enterprises ask for financial support to mitigate certain circumstances, including unfavorable weather conditions. “We are ready to give everything. We will help, we will support, but the investment needs to pay off. That is why I purposefully, knowing that you are not an agricultural specialist, appointed you governor. Although there were other candidates, I mean alternative ones.”

The head of state said that he was happy with what he saw on his way to Lyuban District. “I hope, Aleksei Ivanovich [Kushnarenko], everything will be as good as it is now. I hope I do not overpraise you here. Well done! Everything is in order here. And not only in Lyuban District. Slutsk, Soligorsk are also in proper order. Well, they have always been good districts, but this year they are especially good. I am really happy with them.”
