Lukashenko names Belarus’ strongest deterrent

MINSK, 1 July (BelTA) – The most powerful deterrent is everyone's devotion to the interests of the country, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said during a solemn gathering on 1 July dedicated to upcoming Independence Day, BelTA has learned.

“The most powerful weapon that can effectively discourage anyone from even thinking of incursion into our territory is everyone’s devotion to the interests of Belarus. The bedrocks of our independence are hard work for our families and the country, respect for our history, traditions, and genuine values,” said Aleksandr Lukashenko.

The president warned against forgetting about this, even though some say that it is not a good idea to dredge up the past. “Yes, maybe we need to celebrate and honor the memory in a different way. Maybe. We will think about it. I think about it more and more often. But we should not forget about it. We are adults, it is in our blood, it was hammered into our heads at school. And the youth? They must remember,” the Belarusian leader said. “This great legacy was left by the people who prevailed in such a terrible massacre of the last century. It is vitally important to prevent this from happening again. That is why we never stop talking about it... Maybe we should mark these dates in an old fashion. We will think about it. But we must not let the memory of this fade away under any circumstances. I already warned you in Khatyn: as soon as we forget the road to Khatyn, the history will repeat itself tomorrow. Let's not forget about it!” the president emphasized.

The head of state noted that Belarus is closely monitoring and adequately assessing the risks and its own capabilities. “We are not shouting from the rooftops that tomorrow we will attack or defend ourselves,” he noted.
Aleksandr Lukashenko explained that Belarus alone will not be able to stand its ground against the European Union and NATO. “Here is the answer as to why we stand together with brotherly Russia. Tell me, with whom else? With those who criticize me for this? Name one country with whom we can defend our interests together, with whom we speak the same language,” the president noted.

“We are closely monitoring what is happening around us and continue the heroic path of our ancestors,” Aleksandr Lukashenko added.
