Lukashenko: More Belarusians can afford buying a car now

MINSK, 24 April (BelTA) – Belarusians can afford buying a car increasingly often. A third of the population has a car. Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko made the statement at a session of the 7th Belarusian People’s Congress, BelTA has learned.

In 1990 Belarus citizens had slightly more than 0.5 million automobiles. In 2023 the figure exceeded 3 million, 5.5 times up since 1990. In other words, a third of the population has a car, including babes in arms.

“What is more important is that Belarusians can afford and do afford buying a new car increasingly often,” Aleksandr Lukashenko pointed out.

With assistance of the People’s Republic of China Belarus has managed to create its own car. Nearly 70,000 automobiles were made and sold in 2023.
