BREST, 23 June (BelTA) - Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko took part in the commemorative events in the Brest Hero Fortress Memorial to mark the 80th anniversary of the beginning of the Great Patriotic War, BelTA has learned.
The head of state laid a wreath at the Eternal Flame on Ceremonial Square of the Brest Fortress.
Commemorative events dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the beginning of the Great Patriotic War are held all over Belarus. According to tradition, one of the central events took place on the night of 21-22 June in Brest Fortress. A solemn meeting was held on Ceremonial Square, and then a military and historical reenactment took place near Kobrin fortification.
The culmination of the commemorative events was a solemn ceremony with the participation of the head of state, followed by a concert in honor of the heroes of the war.
