Lukashenko lauds work on mistakes, urges more discipline

MINSK, 10 February (BelTA) – We did work on the mistakes and must be more disciplined for the sake of achieving even greater results in the future, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he met with representatives of religious denominations in Minsk on 10 February, BelTA learned.

The head of state emphasized that the president must serve his people and do what the people want. But sometimes the society does not really understand this or that situation. “It is important to convince people. You must do everything for people to understand it,” the Belarusian leader said.

Aleksandr Lukashenko recalled the events of 2019-2020, including the pandemic, domestic political events. “As much as I strove to reach you and my people, I sincerely admit that not everyone understood what was happening. Our Church, all denominations do not reject [the idea that] time puts everything in its place. Time has put everything in its place,” the president said. “Now we have realized who financed it, how much was allocated for this ailment, where it came from, how many people died. We recognized that the only right path was the one that we chose.”

“I failed to get through to you. This is one of the reasons or arguments (if not the most important one) that our opponents, certain enemies used to turn the country upside down. We already know how much money was donated and to whom. Look, if this money had been used for the cause, our denominations would have had no problems and we would not be discussing them today. We would have built centers for them, and we would have helped them fight drug addiction more, help large families and so on and so forth,” the head of state stressed.

According to him, time not only puts things in their proper place, but also teaches many people. “Including us. We recognize the mistakes that we made. You must agree that you underperformed too. We did not preserve the peace at that time. But we have worked on our mistakes, and today we have the result: both the society and the people are together with us, and they have confirmed it,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.

“Well, in order to move forward, you don't have to rely on one person all the time. Because it's going to be harder to move on. A person is not eternal. It is important that we all work together. And for things to be normal, there must be discipline,” the head of state said.
In this regard, the president noted that every denomination has ironclad discipline. When there is such discipline, there is success.

“It doesn't mean to rattle a saber. No. If we have an idea and make a decision, we must see it through. Everyone should strive for it. I see executive discipline in this,” the Belarusian leader explained.
He cited the agricultural industry as an example. Belarus has built up certain expertise, managed to feed and clothe people, and this industry should be further supported and developed, which requires discipline.

The same applies to mechanical engineering, electronics and others which have been preserved in Belarus since the Soviet times. “We see the use in them. There should be an ironclad discipline to raise them up a notch. Then we will be richer. We should produce high-quality products. Then people will buy from us,  at higher prices than now. Everything is simple, everything comes from things on the ground. Just as He [the Lord] taught us,” the head of state said.
