Lukashenko invited to Belarus' electric car presentation, promises to drive a Tesla

MINSK, 23 January (BelTA) – We will arrange a big meeting with scientists to discuss problems of Belarus' scientific sector, Belarus president Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he spoke with scientists following a ceremony to bestow Doctor of Sciences diplomas and professor certificates in Minsk on 23 January, BelTA has learned.

Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (NASB) Vladimir Gusakov thanked the head of state for the meeting and invited him to visit the NASB. “We are ready to show electric transport and other solutions. Work on all your instructions is underway,” he noted.

“All right, I will drive a Tesla and park it nearby,” the president said. “I will definitely come for another open dialogue, like we have had today, because I see that we simply do not guide our scientists enough. They get information from mass media, from some other sources. In the past, in the Soviet times, it was different. We should inform not only enterprises, we inform them more often than we do scientists. Who are scientists? If they are given information, thousands of people will follow their philosophy tomorrow,” he added.

“This is why I will meet with scientists to speak sincerely about the policy of our country. It is important for me to hear their honest opinion,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.
