Lukashenko instructs to provide housing to doctors, social workers

MINSK, 13 December (BelTA) – It is necessary to provide housing to doctors and social sector workers, Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko said during the visit to the Belarusian State Medical University (BSMU) on 13 December, BelTA has learned.

The president remarked that the analysis of the situation in such spheres as education, healthcare, sport, showed that people are concerned about the housing issue. “Housing is the main thing. The availability of housing will help us solve the problem of personnel outflow,” Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed.

As a positive example, the head of state mentioned houses which were built for doctors in Borovlyany. “It seems that we have found a way. These are wonderful houses, especially for young people with higher education, they can live there even until they are 40,” he said.

“There is an instruction to build such houses within 2-3 years,” he said. “It is completely feasible for us.” The head of state is convinced that the resolution of the housing issue will encourage specialists to stay.

According to the president, the outflow of doctors from Belarus is not a big problem. According to the Healthcare Ministry, about 200 doctors went to work abroad in 2019, about 20 doctors came back. In 2018, these numbers were 158 and 40 respectively.

Many of them tried to work abroad and came back. “It is good that some people who want to go there, abroad, and make a lot of money have calmed down. Now they go to Poland, Lithuania, because there is a single economic space, the European Union… People went somewhere from Poland and Lithuania to earn money. They have a huge deficit. And about 100 Belarusian doctors flooded there. So what? Did they see anything new in Lithuania? People who worked there and came back calmed those enthusiasts down a little bit.”
