MINSK, 28 January (BelTA) – It is necessary to talk to Lithuania in an inflexible and pragmatic manner and force the country to honor contractual commitments. Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko made the statement in his address to the nation and the parliament on 28 January, BelTA has learned.
Aleksandr Lukashenko said: “Attempting to try to sell these political escapades at a profit, Lithuanians have gone overboard to the detriment of their own interests. They've even challenged great China for the sake of the United States. They've become entangled in a confrontation with the Russian Federation. Americans even have to restrain them at times. But Lithuanian attempts to curry favor with their overseers put them on the brink of destruction of their own statehood. In these conditions we believe we should talk to Lithuania in an inflexible and pragmatic manner and force the country to honor contractual commitments while adequately responding to its actions.”
The president addressed Lithuanians: “I simply want to tell our friends, our dear Lithuanians in a humane way: god forbid if you start a war together with other Baltic countries, it will signify the end of your statehood and your development. But then again it is not a threat. It is a warning. And I address this warning not to the leadership of the Baltic countries but to their nations.”
