Lukashenko in favor of peaceful Belarus, calls for preparing for anything

MINSK, 3 July (BelTA) – Belarus remains peaceful but it is necessary to prepare for anything. Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko made the statement during a ceremony held in the Mound of Glory memorial complex on 3 July on the occasion of Independence Day, BelTA has learned.
Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed: “Trust me, I am not trying to inflate tensions. We don’t need it. We are in favor of keeping peace in our country. But we cannot miss anything like we did it in June 1941. You remember it better than I do. We should be ready to anything. Instead of remonstrating, soothing, and saying that everything is quiet and calm and nothing will happen. If nothing happens, good. But we should prepare for the worst. A simple popular policy.”

The president expressed gratitude to the veterans for their heroic feat and to all participants of the war. The Mound of Glory has been built in their name.

“Immense gratitude from all of us to those, who did not live to this minute. We should preserve Belarus just like that in their memory,” the Belarusian leader told the veterans. “Many of us, particularly young people, feel some drawbacks, shortages of some things. Such as potatoes and something else. But you, including us, understand that these are trifles in comparison with what you and those, who are no longer with us, had to live through when you were young. This is why it is the simplest thing to get potatoes for us. They are already available. Good health to you and a long life! You are not only memory. You are the future of our country. Thank you! Our heroes stand behind you: the military personnel, who have defended the country just recently by suppressing an insurrection. They will not give away our Belarus to anyone.”

At the foot of the Mound of Glory the head of state also talked to active military personnel and to cadets.

“We don’t want to fight more than anyone else. But…” Aleksandr Lukashenko started saying. “You cannot give away your loved one!” someone nearby continued. “Exactly!” the president agreed.
