Lukashenko: I do not want Belarus to turn into battleground

ROGACHEV DISTRICT, 13 August (BelTA) – The situation in the world, including around Belarus, is quite complicated today, Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he met with local residents in the agro-town of Tikhinichi, in Rogachev District on 13 August, BelTA has learned.

“Do not think that I am exaggerating the situation to unleash some war. My words about possible World War III were not a joke,” the Belarusian leader said.

He recalled that many times in history the interests of major world players clashed on the territory of modern Belarus, which resulted in wars.

“If they decide to encroach on Belarus, then, of course, Russia will respond because it sees us as their own. If, God forbid, Belarus falls down, then they will deploy missiles here, which is very close to Smolensk. Not somewhere near Kiev or on the Black Sea, but near Smolensk. And then all these forces will clash. They, the Americans, Europeans have locked horns not only with Russia, but also with China. I don't want Belarus to become a battleground, as it has always been the case in history. We have had enough of this," Aleksandr Lukashenko said. “I am not dramatizing the situation, but it is not easy," the head of state added.
Addressing the local residents, he said: “The president, the government, the governors will be dealing with these issues. You do your job well, take care of your families. If I need your help, I will ask. Yet, do not be afraid of anyone. We are capable of defending you.”
