Lukashenko: I am ardent supporter of EU

BELGRADE, 3 December (BelTA) – I am an ardent supporter of the European Union, Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko told the media after the talks with Serbia President Aleksandar Vucic in Belgrade on 3 December, BelTA has learned.

“I am resolutely against the disintegration of the European Union, which has imposed sanctions against Belarus. The European Union is one of the most powerful pillars of the world. If you pull it out, the system will not just become unstable. It can collapse. This is why I want to see the European Union intact,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.

Speaking about Serbia's intention to join the EU, the president said that Europe has a lot on its plate now. “You know what the situation in the European Union is. They are not thinking about new members. They are worried about keeping the old ones,” the head of state said.

Aleksandr Lukashenko is confident that Serbia “can do well in the EU or in the Eurasian Economic Union.” “We are ready to work with you on this front,” the Belarusian leader said.
