MINSK, 22 November (BelTA) – Even if artificial intelligence takes over people's minds, humans will still be at the center of everything, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said during a Q&A session titled “Open Microphone with the President” at Minsk State Linguistic University on 22 November, BelTA has learned.
The head of state noted that artificial intelligence has been in the works for a long time. The Chinese have made great advances in this area. Aleksandr Lukashenko said that at one of the meetings in China he was told about the future of these technologies and demonstrated their capabilities.
"I asked them whether AI will replace humans and whether we, humans, will simply be discarded? They say: we don't know, maybe. This alarmed me very much," the president said.
According to the head of state, professional translators help him in negotiations with foreign colleagues, he does not use artificial intelligence technologies for translation. "I have a lot of respect for talented people," he added. “It's not about artificial intelligence. I value a person. Any artificial intelligence today is a human creation. We are the ones who create it. I am sure that when artificial intelligence, neural networks take over our minds in practice, a person will still be at the center."
“Human beings are wired to fight each other. WE have designed nuclear weapons. Why do we need them? What for? We must live, compete intellectually but live. Why fight?” Aleksandr Lukashenko asked rhetorically. "Therefore, we need people, smart, capable and talented people."
