Lukashenko hails progress towards agricultural industry of the future

KLIMOVICHI, 16 November (BelTA) - Belarus has come a long way in creating the agricultural industry of the future, but there are as many tasks ahead, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he honored farmers during the regional Dazhynki 2024 harvest festival in the town of Klimovichi on 16 November, BelTA has learned.

"We have come a long way in creating the agricultural industry of the future. But there are as many tasks ahead. We must improve agricultural productivity, primarily through technological discipline and precision farming, increase the depth of processing, and develop our own seeds capabilities. Fortunately, we have enough scientific institutes," the president said.

The head of state said that, flying over the regions, he always appreciates the standards of agriculture. It is much better than in previous years. Of course, there is something to strive for. In this regard, Mogilev Oblast lags behind the western regions of Belarus.

"I repeat: it is better to work in a field than sweat blood. If there is an economy, war will never happen. If there is no economy, we will create this war ourselves, we will unleash a civil war. There are enough ill-wishers: they are abroad, rattling their weapons. But they are afraid because we are more united than ever, because we want to live on our land. They are afraid of this, not me. They are afraid of our unity and the fact that we want to work. If we lose this feeling, you will see what happens. God willing this never happens," Aleksandr Lukashenko warned.

As for the agricultural industry, the current level of development is a comprehensive food shield around the country and an export catalyst, the president noted.

"The current harvesting campaign is evidence that we can achieve great results. We harvested 10.3 million tonnes of grain of all types. The total figure is higher than the bar we set for ourselves: one tonne of grain per resident,” the head of state stated. “This is an international norm. If a state produces more than one tonne of grain per person, this state has a future. We did it this year."

In addition, Belarus cropped 5 million tonnes of sugar beet, 150,000 tonnes of flax straw. Aleksandr Lukashenko recalled that there was a shortage of sugar in stores back in the day. The toughest decisions were made. As a result, on the instruction of the president, the agricultural industry increased areas planted to sugar beet.

"We have forgotten about this problem, i.e. we can solve all the problems that we face. It depends on me, on the government and you," the head of state addressed the farmers.
The country harvested 9.5 million tonnes of feed of various types. The milk yield per cow is expected to exceed 6,000kg this year. The president touched on the troubling topic of loss of cattle. The president said he intends to hear a report of the Prosecutor General on this issue soon.
"Farmers achieved the good results in harsh weather conditions overcoming droughts and storms that we had this year," the head of state said.
