Lukashenko: God saved Belarus in 2020

MINSK, 15 March (BelTA) – God helped Belarus in 2020. If things turned out differently, a war would have broken out, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said at a meeting timed to the 30th anniversary of the Constitution of Belarus on 15 March, BelTA has learned.

"God helped us in 2020 [a reference to the failed coup attempt]. If we hadn't held out then, a war would have broken out here. They [the opponents] would have dragged NATO troops here. Imagine Russia's reaction - NATO troops near its border, close to Smolensk. It would have been a nuclear war," the president said. “We survived. God helped us. It was not the president running around with a machine gun, together with his child... No. God protected us."

"Today the situation is even more dangerous. It's more dangerous because we can't see it. We can't see half of it, including me, having more information. Therefore, you need to be careful. We are walking on thin ice. An extra wrong step and we will fail. No one will save us. We will not be able to protect ourselves and save ourselves. The sharks around us are so big that they will eat us before we know it," the Belarusian leader warned.

"There are many haters. That's why time has chosen us. Let us hold on for the sake of our country. I want to say it again: I will not betray or change the course left or right. Together with you, we will decide on all issues. I promise you that," Aleksandr Lukashenko concluded.
