
MINSK, 25 July (BelTA) – Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko gave an interview to one of the most prominent international outlets on 25 July, the press service of the Belarusian leader told BelTA.
The names of the media outlet and the interviewer have not yet been revealed. That was the request of the publication in order to keep the intrigue and ensure the exclusivity of the material.
According to Press Secretary of the Belarusian president Natalya Eismont, Aleksandr Lukashenko spoke with the journalist for more than two and a half hours “in a classic interview format”. “The conversation then continued off the record. Altogether, it was a three-hour discussion, extremely frank and substantive,” she said.
A wide range of topics were discussed during the interview. Among the key matters are: the peace process between Russia and Ukraine: Aleksandr Lukashenko’s perspective and Belarus’ role in it; Belarus-USA negotiations: how they began, how they are progressing, and what the president expects from them;
the multi-vector foreign policy: external perceptions, criticism, and Russia's concerns if any;
Belarus’ active international dialogue and the sanctions imposed by the United States and EU; the special military operation: details of its beginning;
the Belarus-Russia military exercise Zapad 2025 and changes to its plan: what is the purpose; nuclear weapons and the Oreshnik missile system as strong arguments: what the Americans said to the president about this;
national sovereignty and security: philosophical and practical views on fundamental issues; Aleksandr Lukashenko’s potential new presidential term: whether there will be one, and who the president envisions as his successor.
