Lukashenko explains why he supports Russia

MINSK, 21 July (BelTA) – Aleksandr Lukashenko completely supports Russia's decision to launch a special military operation in Ukraine. Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko made the statement in an interview with the news agency Agence France-Presse (AFP), BelTA has learned.

Aleksandr Lukashenko said: “I indeed support Russia. Not only because we have a union with Russia. Not only because we are legally bound to do it: we've signed an agreement with Russia on creating a joint force grouping in the western direction with the Belarusian army at its core. It was known a long time ago, it is our doctrine. Not only because of that. But because we saw a reason for this war. The reason is: if Russia had not been one step ahead of you, you, NATO countries would have become organized and would have carried out a strike against Russia. I believe in it and so does Russia. And it would have happened like that.”

“You, NATO countries, Americans wanted this war. And if Putin had not launched this operation, you would have started the war but after getting organized. He was simply slightly ahead of you. It is the stance of Russia and Belarus,” he stated.
