Lukashenko explains reason behind new Brest Oblast governor's appointment

MINSK, 12 August (BelTA) – The industrial sector in Brest Oblast needs a serious boost. This is the main reason behind the appointment of Piotr Parkhomchik as Brest Oblast Governor. Piotr Parkhomchik was in charge of this area as Deputy Prime Minister before, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he made personnel appointments on 12 August, BelTA has learned.

“One thing is to be a vice premier, another is to head the Brest Oblast Executive Committee. This is responsibility for the region. Governors are central figures in the Belarusian authorities. Brest Oblast is a good region. It is a simple one, however. Piotr Parhomchik will be able to deal with agriculture issues there together with Mikhail Ivanovich Rusy [Belarus President’s Aide in Brest Oblast, who used to serve as vice premier and agriculture and food minister]. He will be in charge of the region. I talked to him today. He understands everything and knows what should be done there. He said that it was the right decision to appoint Parkhomchik and promised that you will put things in order there, including all possible support in agriculture. The reason to appoint an industrial specialist is the need to make considerable improvements in the industrial sector in Brest Oblast,” the president said.

According to Aleksandr Lukashenko, Piotr Parkhomchik knows the industrial sector in the country in general and in Brest Oblast in particular better than anyone else. “Therefore, I really hope that we will soon forget about any problems with industry,” the head of state said. “Mikhail Ivanovich Rusy says there are three or four troubled enterprises in Brest Oblast. Things will be put in order there and the result will be good, even better than now - this is the statement of the man who is actually responsible for all the issues in Brest Oblast. I think you will always find a common language with Mikhail Ivanovich [Rusy].”

As BelTA reported earlier, apart from Mikhail Rusy [Chairman of the Standing Committee on Legislation and State Building of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly), Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Shuleiko has been recently appointed Belarus President’s Aide in Brest Oblast. Before, he was in charge of Brest Oblast.
