MINSK, 29 December (BelTA) – I do not rule out the interest of the Americans in buying shares of Nord Stream, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said on the air of the Belarus 1 TV channel on 29 December, BelTA learned.
“Europe is not going anywhere: there is a struggle for resources in the world. Meanwhile here resources are just given away. There is talk that the Americans are ready to buy shares - who would have thought - of Nord Stream. I've heard that, that's what they say. It's not out of the question. Let them buy it, for God's sake,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.
As it was previously reported, on the sidelines of the EAEU summit in Leningrad Oblast, Russia, the Belarusian head of state, referring to Russian President Vladimir Putin, said about Russia's readiness to supply gas to Germany.
“Take a listen to what, as I believe, the future chancellor of the FRG says, 'We are not children. We know what cheap gas is.” It means they will buy cheap gas from Russia. Only idiots refuse to take advantage of that. Especially when there is still one operational gas pipeline [the intact Nord Stream gas pipeline] that they didn't blow up. That's why Russia can supply 25 billion cubic meters through this pipeline,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.
In the autumn U.S. media reported that U.S. investor Stephen Lynch, who has been doing business in Russia for 20 years, has asked the U.S. government to grant him a license to bid if Nord Stream 2 is put up for auction.
