MINSK, 10 March (BelTA) – While making personnel decisions in the government on 10 March, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko inquired about the progress in spring field work, BelTA has learned.
During the meeting, the head of state addressed Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Shuleiko who oversees the agricultural industry. The head of state pointed out to unusual climatic conditions in March, asking how this will affect the timing and progress of agricultural work. “The weather is good. It seems like we need to start sowing. But on the other hand... Maybe it's too early? Crops might freeze. After all, it's mid-March. It's 18-19°C in Brest. What should we do? We need to sow,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.

Yuri Shuleiko responded that sowing has already begun in some regions in line with previously agreed plans. In addition, this year the preparation of equipment and procurement of mineral fertilizers are proceeding at a more rapid pace. Many agricultural enterprises have prepared the soil for spring sowing work in advance. “We have plowed 300,000 hectares of land additionally in the winter. In other words, agricultural workers who have done preparatory work in advance have less work to do now,” the vice-premier noted. As for the wintering of cattle, this time it went well, including due to the absence of severe frosts. Since the beginning of the year the agricultural output has been on the rise. In January 2025, it increased by 3.3% year-on-year.
