MINSK, 12 December (BelTA) – The key tendency in the field of security is the accumulation of the conflict potential in various regions across the globe. Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko made the relevant statement at a session of Belarus’ Security Council on 12 December, BelTA has learned.
Aleksandr Lukashenko said: “During the Security Council session we will consider matters of planning the defense of our state in the medium term. In the last few years the military and political situation around the country did not change for the better, regretfully, as we all notice and state. Primarily military specialists. It is no secret that the key tendency right now is the accumulation of the conflict potential in various regions across the globe.”
The president pointed out that striving to show their significance and aspiring to assume the role of regional leaders, individual states continue inflating tensions around Belarus. “You know it very well: NATO’s actions and particularly events on the southern flank, in Ukraine. Meanwhile, destructive rhetoric of European countries about Belarus is growing stronger. It indicates incessant attempts to shake loose the domestic political situation in our country,” the head of state stated.
“Once again I’d like to emphasize: we must not become self-complacent under any circumstances. Things may seem calm. People have realized and have reevaluated a lot of things. Many of those, who thought differently in 2020 and before that, think totally differently now. This is why things may seem calm and good. But we must not be self-complacent. We shouldn’t think that we are smart and on top of the situation while everyone around us, particularly in NATO and in America, is a fool. No. They are experienced people with huge strength. This is why we cannot relax,” the Belarusian leader emphasized. “We should work with our own nation. We should convince, demonstrate and, most importantly, we should work to make things better for the people. Then they will always support such a government. This is why we are going to work in this direction.”
