Lukashenko demands wise approaches to development of Motovelo

MINSK, 5 March (BelTA) – It is essential to use wise approaches to develop OAO Motovelo which currently has many unused territories, Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko said during the visit to the enterprise on 5 March, BelTA informs.

“Thrifty approaches to the development of these territories are needed. This is a gold mine. Please no housing here. We need production, high-tech production here,” the Belarusian leader stressed.

In his words, the focus on export is necessary. “Please rent these premises, produce and export goods,” the president said. “People will be happy to work here, in the center of Minsk.”

The head of state instructed the chairman of the State Control Committee to analyze the need to dismantle certain buildings once again. A more targeted approach is needed. Aleksandr Lukashenko deems it necessary to use this huge territory virtually in the center of Minsk wisely. Moreover, some buildings in Partizansky Avenue have been shaping the historical image of the Belarusian capital city for many years.

“Let's see. If you like, this is an item of cultural value. I was not born in Minsk, but I used to drive along this avenue to work and back home for all my life, when I was an MP. I liked those buildings. Let's see, maybe, it is necessary to repair some roofs and anything like that. We need independent people, not from those who were in charge of that audit,” the Belarusian leader stressed.

“Look at this beauty. These are century-old trees,” the president said about the territory of Motovelo. He inspected the premises during a bus ride and gave instructions.

One of possible uses of the Motovelo Plant premises is relocation of the Minsk City Technopark to its site. The head of state was informed that the new concept provides for increasing the area under manufacturing from 50% to 70%, and cutting the area used for logistics and services from 50% to 20%. In addition to that, there are plans to locate the state agricultural industry corporation at the plant's premises and set up a single marketing center for retail outlets operated by the Industry Ministry.

The president supported these proposals in essence, but emphasized that the plant should stay in the third building. He added that the modernization effort should focus on manufacturing import-substituting products in order to maximize localization of the production of motorcycles and bicycles. Certain benefits can also be envisaged for such enterprises.

“We should offer preferential terms to all companies working on these premises. Some will have more benefits, for example, Motovelo Plant, some fewer,” the head of state added.

“We need to create an exemplary technopark and scale up this experience to other cities and locations,” the Belarusian leader said.

Aleksandr Lukashenko inspected the premises on a bus and gave a number of instructions.

The president reiterated that it is necessary by formalize certain benefits in a decree and to spell out terms of operation for those who will continue to work at this site.
