Lukashenko conveys Putin’s stance on Ukraine ceasefire to Kellogg

MINSK, 1 July (BelTA) – During the talks with President Trump's Special Envoy for Ukraine Keith Kellogg, Aleksandr Lukashenko told him where Russia stands on the possibility of a ceasefire in Ukraine. The Belarusian head of state shared the details of his talks with Keith Kellogg after the official part of his speech at the solemn gathering on 1 July dedicated to upcoming Independence Day, BelTA has learned.

The head of state said that he called on the American side to calm down after the election tumult and to start walking the talk. “If you fail to act on another statement of yours, this will mean the start of your fall. In a year and a half, there will be midterm elections [in the USA]. You will lose them, as well as the presidential election. I would not want Trump and these people to lose. In my opinion, they are still in the grip of the election hubbub. I told them about this too,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.

“It's time to get back to senses and get down to work. Negotiations on Ukraine were held from these positions, among other things. They are talking a lot about this today - a ceasefire, at least in the air. Vladimir Putin and I had discussed this problem before, it is not the first time the issue was raised. Putin is right when he says: “Listen, we support it, we are not against it, we do not want American, British, French and German missiles to hit our cities.”

The Belarusian president recalled constant drone attacks. But, he said, Vladimir Putin has one clear demand: “Let the West ask their proxy, Zelensky, to stop striking Russia. Then we'll agree.”

“This is the position I conveyed to the Americans. I do not see anything wrong with that. The US representative said they will work on that,” the head of state noted.

“This could be a good first step towards ending this fratricidal war. But I do not believe the West wants to stop this war,” Aleksandr Lukashenko added.
