Lukashenko comments on West’s return to Nazi ideology

MINSK, 18 August (BelTA) – Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko commented on the Western ideology, which has recently turned towards Nazism, as he spoke in an interview with the Rossiya TV channel, BelTA has learned.

The conversation touched upon the Bundeswehr's recent decision to include officers who served in the Wehrmacht in a list of examples for Germany's current military to follow. “They speak such things at the level of the Bundeswehr already. It is even scary to read about it,” the president said.

Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed that ideology is a feature of any state. The West, according to him, has found nothing better than Nazism, while Belarus and Russia rely on their traditions and glorious past.

“They have decided to go back to Nazi ideology. We do not need to go back to anything. Our ideology is based on a centuries-old foundation,” the president emphasized. “Neither Putin nor I invent anything new when we talk about traditional values. They have always been there.”

“We do not need to look at them and be afraid of them,” the head of state continued. “We should adopt the best from them, the things that are beneficial to us. I advise you to simply ignore this frenzy. We can only sometimes cite as a bad example that madness of the West and the European Union and where they can take their satellites, which have never played a role in history and do not play it today.”
