MOSCOW, 13 March (BelTA) - In the Kremlin Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko answered the journalists' question about the agenda of his talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
When asked what items will be on the agenda, the head of state said: “All kinds of items. We kept postponing and postponing. You’ve probably noticed that we have not met for two or three months. So a lot of issues have piled up. We have agreed that we will discuss them today,” the president said.
He emphasized that there are no big political or economic problems in the relationship between Belarus and Russia. “We have repeatedly discussed them. We are doing a lot in this direction. We have made a decision on the integrated markets for gas, oil and electricity. Issues are not many. Import substitution is among them,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.
As for the foreign policy agenda, many issues have piled up, both global and regional issues. “We have no interest in getting involved in global politics. I think the Russia will sort things out for us and for themselves at the global level,” he said.
When asked whether he plans to have interactions with the Americans, Aleksandr Lukashenko said: “No, I'm not going to have interactions with them. In this case, why should we? There is no point for us. We will agree on a position now.” At the same time, the president noted, contacts with the United States have always been maintained at the level of certain agencies.
As for the talks with Vladimir Putin, the head of state drew attention to regional issues like the Ukrainian problem or relations with Europe and the West. “These are the issues. Taking into account recent developments we need to discuss our intentions with the Russian Federation, synchronize our actions. This is what will be on our agenda. So we are going to discuss all these issues,” Aleksandr Lukashenko noted.
He noted that most of the attention goes to economy. “We will sort things out in the economy. We have everything to live normally. We will not live a lavish life during this period but we will be ok. There is nothing there [in Ukraine] and Europe will not help them,” Aleksandr Lukashenko remarked.
