Lukashenko comments on situation with school uniforms

MINSK, 27 August (BelTA) – Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko commented on the situation with school uniforms in the country as he spoke at the Nationwide Conference on Teaching on 27 August, BelTA has learned.

The head of state emphasized that there were no little things in what concerns the education system. “Any inconsistencies, deficiencies lead the whole country into a chaos. I do not need to name examples, you know them. You remember what negative resonance the story with the calculation of centralized examination scoring caused in the society,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said. “I don't know whether it is right or wrong, but I am informed that you have not got rid of it yet. We will study this situation in the near future.”

The president demanded everything to be honest and transparent, clear to everyone. “Everything should be oriented to the teacher and the average citizen of our country. Students and parents should understand how these scores were made up,” he pointed out.

This year’s university admission campaign, despite the fairly well-coordinated work, people complained about long lines when submitting documents, the head of state noted.

“There is yet another topic to discuss today. An issue of school uniforms has suddenly arisen. I do not see a big problem, but there is a need to respond. It seems to be a little thing, but there are no little things in our work!” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.

As BelTA reported earlier, a pilot project on school uniforms will be implemented in Minsk in the new academic year. The project has united 20 educational institutions: eight gymnasiums and 12 secondary schools. Students of these educational institutions will have to be wearing unified school uniforms during their classes. School uniform items are made in one set of colors and of the same set of fabrics. They feature unified approaches in design.

Other educational institutions retain the same approaches they followed. For example, if an educational institution has previously adopted two unified elements (a vest and a tie, for example), it will keep them.
