MINSK, 26 January (BelTA) – Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko commented on Elon Musk's gesture at Donald Trump’s inauguration as he spoke to the media in Minsk on 26 January, BelTA has learned.
Italian journalists asked the head of state about his attitude to the European Parliament resolution equating Soviet symbols with Nazi symbols.
The president emphasized that Belarus knows all too well what Nazi symbols are. Unfortunately, the country paid a terrible price for this knowledge. Belarus’ losses in the Great Patriotic War were enormous. The country was virtually wiped off the face of the earth and took a long time to restore.
In this regard, Aleksandr Lukashenko drew attention to Elon Musk's gesture during the inauguration of Donald Trump. “They cannot say anything to justify it. This is an open Nazi salute, the Americans and Mr Musk have simply taken this too far,” the head of state said. He emphasized that Musk is probably well aware that this gesture is associated with the Nazi salute. “Why didn’t the Jews condemn this? The holocaust was carried out under this gesture. Not a single Jew condemned Musk and said anything to Trump,” the Belarusian leader said.
“Why do you go on stage and do the Hitler salute in front of millions of people? Are you doing anyone good? We, together with the Americans, fought against it. It’s just nuts,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said. I have to tell you that there is the power to stop them. They are all believers. God really spared Trump [the failed assassination attempt on Donald Trump] not for him to pursue such a policy and surround himself with such people. They are madmen who have become insane by big money. It is not us or the Soviet Union that should be condemned for Nazism. Here it is, a live example of it.”
The head of state also drew attention to the USA’s active interference in the internal affairs of other countries. According to him, the UK is not an exception here. “The UK will soon be given a new leadership. It will be brought from Washington. This is your policy. This is what you have driven yourselves into. Calm down and start reviving and re-establishing relations in the East. Do not rely on one wing. Some reproach me for sitting on a chair with one leg, others say I am sitting on a two-legged chair. Then, make up your mind: are you sitting on a chair with two legs or one leg,” the president said.
