MINSK, 26 January (BelTA) - Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko expressed his views on the possible future of Moldova as he answered journalists' questions on 26 January, BelTA has learned.
Journalists from Moldova asked the head of the state about his vision of Moldova’s future.
Aleksandr Lukashenko noted that he has a high regard for Moldova. He has visited the country several times in Soviet times and later. These visits left good impressions, he said. The president is convinced that Moldova has everything to prosper, but in order to achieve this, the country needs to mobilize its efforts, find ways to unite its people, preserve its sovereignty, and in no case break the system that has already been established.
“Take charge of your life and start defending your country’s interests. Consider that there is some ruined foundation and slowly start to restore it. You have such experience. If you need help, you are welcome, we can help you,” the president stressed.
“You already have an economic system. Yes, it is in decline, but it is still there. It is easier to restore the system than to create it from scratch. We have experienced this in Belarus,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.
“I do not mean that you should follow our path. But why are you destroying what you have created? I am an advocate of evolutionary development. You need to build on what you already have, develop as a state, as a sovereign state, go either West or East. But don't destroy what you have. It will be difficult later,” the head of state stressed.

“Now you need a strong power to mobilize the people. You need to negotiate wherever possible,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said. "You need to rely on someone, so negotiate with those who do not require you to destroy your country.” According to the head of state, there are opportunities to reach agreements with both Russia and the West, but Moldova needs to prioritize its own national interests.
