MINSK, 22 November (BelTA) – Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko was asked to comment on his favorite sport during his meeting with students at Minsk State linguistic University on 22 November, BelTA has learned.
The head of state said that he used to be fond of football. “I spend more time on the ice today. This does not mean however that I love ice hockey only. I love various sports, and I am familiar with many of them,” he said.
The president cited the ongoing international rhythmic gymnastics tournament 2024 Heavenly Grace Cup in Qatar as an example. He said that he was following the performance of Belarusian athletes there.
“I follow various tournaments very closely. I know personally many outstanding athletes who deliver great performance and glorify the country. I try to help them as much as I can. For example, Ihar Boki, our swimmer. He is a 21-time Paralympic champion. I also know him in person, and ask him what assistance I can provide,” the head of state said.
“I take interest in almost all sports. There is no sport that I would not follow. If our athletes perform well, I immediately fall in love with this sport,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.
The president is confident that every person should do sport and keep fit. This is especially true if you hold public office. “You need to do sport for two hours a day. You should do it every day. Do sport, chop wood, whatever. And sauna for two hours a day. Everyone should find the time for it every day. If it is late, if I still hear out some reports (I usually finish work at 9-10pm), I still find time to do sport,” the head of state said.
The president added that he liked tennis as well, and used to play it for some time. The head of state, however, considers it to be the most traumatic sport.
