LOGOISK DISTRICT, 25 August (BelTA) – My vegetable garden is a testing ground for various crop varieties bred by Belarusian scientists, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said during his working trip to Logoisk District on 25 August, BelTA informs.
“I grow watermelons not for media hype. I experiment. This all started from one Dutch variety. Yesterday we harvested five different varieties of watermelons. Pieces of five watermelon varieties were put on my table. I tried them and chose the best two. The Belarusian variety is also okay. When I ventured into it I said that we would grow watermelons in the future. Today our watermelon does not differ from the watermelon that [Tajikistan President] Emomali Rahmon had sent to me. Specialists say that it is even healthier for us,” the head of state emphasized.
In his words, he has a similar approach to other crops such as, for example, new potato cultivars.
“I gather the harvest and make conclusions. Potatoes bred by our scientists (I use super-elite seeds) even taste differently. First, they are clean. They are seeded for the first time and have not yet been damaged or polluted, we use a proper technology. This is how I keep an eye on what our scientists offer to our farmers. The same applies to rapeseeds and grass,” the head of state said.
He remarked that his farm produces the best milk. “I have 13 cows. This is not a huge farm. However, this is the cleanest milk,” he said.
“I experiment to see what we need. Food security is number one priority,” the Belarusian leader concluded.
