Lukashenko calls to revisit draft Education Code before its second reading

MINSK, 24 August (BelTA) – We need to carefully re-analyze the new wording of the Education Code before it gets the second reading in the parliament, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he addressed the National Pedagogical Conference in Minsk on 24 August, BelTA has learned.

“The code has passed the first reading. It's the constitution in education. Let's once again analyze the controversial points, if any, before the second reading. Let's have this conversation before the autumn session of the parliament. We will revisit this issue together with experts to make sure we have not missed anything. Otherwise, they will blame the president for this, as always," Aleksandr Lukashenko said.

The head of state recalled that the task of codification of legislation was set before the parliament of the previous convocation. "We need to formalize everything in one document, the code. That was how we approached the laws in education. Yet, life does not stand still, and we see that we have missed some things. We must correct them and shine more light on certain areas of our education, where necessary," the Belarusian leader stressed.
