MINSK, 24 August (BelTA) - It is high time we put an end to the continuous evaluation of historical epochs and personalities, Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he addressed the National Pedagogical Conference in Minsk on 24 August, BelTA has learned.
Speaking at the pedagogical conference, the president touched upon the textbooks on humanities - history and social studies. “It is time we come to grips with how we see historical epochs and personalities. We must clearly define who is a hero, who is a historical figure, and who is a traitor to their people,” he said.
Aleksandr Lukashenko recalled his conversation with history students at the Mound of Glory on 3 July. Back then, the students came up with the initiative to work out a textbook about the war, which would be interesting to young people. They expressed their willingness to actively participate in this work. “I hope that a new textbook, taking into account the recently discovered facts, will highlight the key points, including the genocide of the Belarusian people, collaboration and other important topics, which we have not raised before. It is obvious that there is a need for a more active involvement of young people (students, post-graduate students, and novice scientists ) in this work. Their opinions, their vision of the problems should be taken into account. Let them argue, let them defend their point of view. It is normal. This will only benefit everyone,” the head of state said.
