Lukashenko calls on post-Soviet states to develop closer ties with Union State

MINSK, 1 July (BelTA) - At the present stage the Union State of Belarus and Russia plays the role of a driving force of all integration processes, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said in his video address to the participants of the plenary session of the 9th Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia in Grodno on 1 July, BelTA has learned.

According to the head of state, the Union State is an example, a model of cultural and economic interstate cooperation. “Today the post-Soviet countries should be genuinely interested in rapprochement with the Union State, if they want to save their sovereignty and independence. We have seen that only together can we stand up to global challenges,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.

“Those who are still in doubt should understand: without rapid unity and cohesion, without strengthening of interstate relations and just normal human relations, we may not exist tomorrow,” the Belarusian leader stressed.
