Lukashenko briefed on performance of migrant workers in Gomel Oblast

PETRIKOV DISTRICT, 24 May (BelTA) – During his working trip to Petrikov District, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko was told about an experiment with hiring foreign workers, BelTA has learned.

“We have conducted an experiment following your instructions on migrants. Four Uzbeks now work in one of agricultural enterprises of Rechitsa District,” said Gomel Oblast Governor Ivan Krupko.

According to him, these people were hand-picked from two dozen candidates.

“Uzbeks are our people,” Aleksandr Lukashenko noted.

Ivan Krupko continued: “[They make] about Br3,000. They work 10 hours in shifts. They can perform all kinds of operations on a tractor.”

The head of state asked about the outcome of the experiment.

“They made others more disciplined. Earlier, everyone worked halfheartedly, they were late for work. Today, people are waitlisted to get these jobs and we have enough tractor drivers and machine operators on staff,” Ivan Krupko answered.

According to him, they are now thinking about hiring more foreigners.

In this regard, Aleksandr Lukashenko noted that several hundred thousand people from Ukraine have come to Belarus, many of them have arrived recently. “True, not all of them settle here. Some come to us in order to get to the European Union and so on. That's their business. But many settle. Ukrainians are also our people,” he said.

“We need to invite [foreigners] and offer them good terms. We need to bring people in. But control should be in place. We provide foreigners and their kids with accommodation, education, healthcare and so on. It doesn't matter where they come from. The main thing is desire to work. Everyone should keep in mind that we will not be joking around. If someone does not want to work, we'll replace them,” the head of state added.
