Lukashenko: Belarusian society has a special attitude to women

MINSK, 5 March (BelTA) – Belarusian society has a special attitude to women, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he met with activists of the Belarusian Women’s Union on 5 March, BelTA has learned.

According to the president, the reason for that is rooted in history. “Belarusian women shared the hardships of the war  with men. They saved the wounded on the battlefield, worked in the rear, helped  partisans, and participated in the underground movement. They took on a difficult task to rebuild the country in the post-war years. Having lost husbands, fathers, sons at the front, our grandmothers and mothers found the strength to rebuild the country. In fact, there were no men left on this piece of land where our Belarus stands: everyone was killed, either at the front, or during their fight as partisans or participants in the underground movement. When the future of the state was at stake again, you, outwardly so tender, fragile and vulnerable, turned out to be harder than metal. And in this you were a role model for men. We just had no right to be weaker, we could not fail you. Thanks to that we held out and won together. This is what makes us men,” Aleksandr Lukashenko emphasized.

The Belarusian Women’s Union has a project - “Belarusian Super Woman”. Every week, the country's main television channels introduce viewers to women who seek to make the world a better place and do that by their own example. “This is really about you. It’s good that you are highlighting the work of the best representatives of your community. Belarusian women are hard workers. You make a significant contribution to the country’s economy, fulfill yourself in all industries, including high-tech and innovative sectors. There are no such heights that you, Belarusians, would not have achieved. Very soon our fellow Belarusian will go into space,” the head of state remarked. “Our women not only address everyday tasks, but also handle major projects, put forward and implement new ideas.”

The president remarked that there are areas where it is difficult, and sometimes impossible, for men to outperform women. Such important areas as healthcare and education would not develop without women. “A woman is the first doctor, because treatment is not only about using a scalpel and giving medication. It is, first of all, about gentle, attentive, caring eyes of a female doctor,” said Aleksandr Lukashenko.
