MINSK, 15 October (BelTA) — Belarus will continue to provide state support to large families, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he heard out the report on improving welfare policies on 15 October, BelTA has learned.
One of the matters discussed during the meeting was the support of large families. The head of state emphasized that Belarus will continue to support this category of citizens, but the approach should be differentiated. "We need to apply a targeting approach," Aleksandr Lukashenko pointed out. "We will support those who raise children, especially five children or more."
The president noted that Belarus provides support to large families in a number of areas, including housing. It is important that such assistance should reach those who really need it.
"We will definitely solve the most important issue of housing. We are also considering the issue of family capital program. We have made very serious decisions. We need to tread very carefully and look at what we need and what we do not. And the main thing – what we can and what we cannot. There should be no waste of money. I have already drawn your attention to this more than once: make decisions thoughtfully," the head of state said.
In this regard, the president touched upon situations when social support for large families does not reach the children because of negligent parents.

"We should help children and we do it. The money must reach them. But, there are still a lot of families who cannot be given cash at all. Because after two days this cash is gone; it is spent on alcohol, frankly speaking. Therefore, we need to monitor certain families," Aleksandr Lukashenko said.
