MINSK, 11 February (BelTA) – I am convinced that Belarus should remain a presidential republic, Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko said in his speech at the 6th Belarusian People's Congress on 11 February, BelTA informs.
According to the head of state, the country should also remain a presidential republic after his retirement. “I am in favor of a constitutional reform. We will discuss it at all dialogue platforms within a year. We will consider every step of change. But I am absolutely convinced that our country should remain a presidential republic. Please do not misunderstand me: our country should remain a presidential republic after Lukashenko's retirement. And it will be without Lukashenko – not today, but tomorrow, the day after tomorrow. Time will pass, new people will come,” the Belarusian leader said.
“I am convinced that all the buzz emerged because of the personality of the current president of Belarus. There is no secret for anyone,” he said. “I am a decisive person, I am not a coward. I am not afraid, I am not rich (don't believe those saying that I took something from someone, I have been in office for a quarter of a century and nobody found anything although the current system helps find every penny). I do not have anything except Belarus. I have spent my best years on this country.”
“I am not frightened. I did not make a hero of myself when I took a rifle. I was determined. I knew and I saw what all that could lead to. And it sobered many people,” the president continued. “My children, other members of my family share this position. I will not give my country to anybody.”
