Lukashenko: Belarus needs large investment projects

MINSK, 4 March (BelTA) – Belarus needs large investment projects, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said on 4 March as he made new appointments on the industrial team of the government which would be led by Vice Premier Viktor Karankevich, BelTA has learned.

“We need to address investment issues in the first place. Investment means the country’s development. We need large investment projects. I have already said this. Let it be two or three large investment projects. For example, a second nuclear power plant. Or a wood processing plant. We have enough raw material to produce cellulose and goods from cellulose with final added value, and so on. Secondly, we need to develop the industries where we have certain experience. Our industry is export-oriented. Therefore, the enterprises must be highly competitive. Without quality however we can neither compete nor move forward,” the Belarusian leader said.
